Lake McConaughy Walleye Tournament Recap

CWA Lake McConaughy Tournament Recap

The weather was great most of the time at Lake McConaughy, and it seemed every fish was biting except for walleye in the lake! Just on the boat I was Pre-Fishing on alone we caught perch, white bass, bluegill, Small mouth bass, carp, smaller walleyes, and a ton of channel catfish! Other boats caught about the same with the addition to Wipers, Large Mouth Bass, and Pike! There were some nice walleyes caught too! Here are some pictures of the fish that on any other day would have been cause for excitement, but not during or Pre-Fishing for a walleye tournament!

Day 1 started off with some cloud cover, followed by a few morning storms, then the wind decided to show up in the afternoon. There were some nice fish weighed in on Day 1, with the biggest one coming in at 9.25 pounds caught by Troy Glover and Rod Lee. On top of the daily payouts, Day 1 hosted the shootout, in which each team was put into a group of 5-6 teams, and the team with the heaviest weight in each grout, wins their entry fee back! Leading the pack Day, was Justin Crump and Mike Williams, weighing in 18.40 pounds, with 2 really nice walleyes! (Pictured Below) Followed by 2nd Place team of Troy Glover and Rod Lee who had 18.27 lbs and big fish of the day also pictured below! Saturday night also hosted our Raffle drawings, a fried chicken dinner, and time to unwind from a day of fishing! We would like to thank Rod Wrap, JB Lures, Live Target, Johnnie Candle, and all of our other sponsors for donating raffle prizes! Below the Pictures are the Top 4 teams for day 1.

Day 2 was calmer and warmer than Day 1, and there were mixed emotions as to how the bite was, but there sure were some big fish caught on day 2! Weigh in on Day 2 was early with it being at 2:30 P.M., giving most anglers the chance to make it home somewhat early, as the drive for most was 3-4 hours from Colorado. Day 2 winners, and also the team with the biggest fish, coming in at 11.67 pounds was Brian Canning and Mike Vorderstrasse, weighing in a total of 27.71 pounds with a full 5 fish bag! Nicely done guys! (First Picture) Coming in for 2nd Place was Bob Schafer and Scott Beauvais with 18.05 pounds!
