Tournament Recap

The CWA finished the last summer tournament for the year at Trinidad and this lake didn’t let us down.  There were 25 teams that signed up for this one and everyone was ready to battle the typical Trinidad heat and weeding through 70 fish a day in hopes of getting 5 quality fish to keep you at the top.

Well that was the plan but mother nature had her own idea.  On day one we started off with temps in the 50’s and holding.  The day really didn’t warm up until just before teams started heading in for the day, which is out of the ordinary for this lake this time of year.  Now we are not going to focus on the weather to much because overall it was stable conditions.  The thing that caught most of us by surprise was the amount of water this lake had.  In speaking with the folks at the reservoir this was the second highest level of water this lake has had in some time, so everyone that had waypoints from previous excursions started off scratching their heads saying, what now.

Well it didn’t take to long for teams to figure out where those eyes moved to and that was to the trees on the west end of the lake.  Most of the teams were pitching jigs into those trees or working the breaks just outside the trees with live bait.  This lake again proved that there is no shortage of fish and teams were catching high numbers of fish each day.  The trick, or getting lucky, was finding fish close to that 17-inch range and getting your two over which was 18 inches at this lake.  One day one there were 122 fish brought to the scales with a total of 194.17 lbs. weighed.

In the top three spots after day one was:

1st Walker / Schweitzer 9.74

2nd Metchke / Hamilton 9.33

3rd Deichel / Kunkel with 9.30

On day two there was again 122 fish brought to the scales with a total of 175.10 lbs. weighed.

The top teams on day two were:

1st Haag / Haag 9.62

2nd Weaver / Weaver 9.25

3rd Frederickson / Stebbins 8.96

After two days of fishing the top five teams are as follows:

1st Haag / Haag

2nd Qualley / Petersen

3rd Frederickson / Stebbins

4th Giordano / Giordano

5th Weaver / Weaver

The top mixed team goes to Johnson / Johnson and the top youth was Ruch / Ruch.

There was a lot riding on this tournament as far as team of the year goes and after it was all said and done the top honors for the season will go to team Haag / Haag with an overall score of 298 points.  Great job guys’ solid year.
