2017 Points #1 Cherry Creek Results

Cherry Creek is in the books and we are off and running for the season.  We had 52 teams register for this tournament and all in all the tournament went off without a hitch.  It was good to see so many teams returning this year and the new teams that showed up.

Day one started out in typical Colorado fashion.  We had snow during the boat inspections, rain most of the morning and sunshine in the afternoon.  During day one teams reported catching a lot of fish but finding fish 18 inches and over was difficult for many.  A few teams were able to put together a solid performance and turned in a good basket.  The top four teams with three fish baskets were Jarred / Citrowske, Mueller / Mueller, Ianero / Jolley and in first was Broeren / Broeren.  Team Broeren and Broeren also landed big fish for the tournament with a nice one that went 5.03 lbs.

On day two the weather was nice with overcast and light winds.  Teams were scattered across the lake applying several tactics.  There were team trolling cranks on lead core, pitching jigs and working blade baits.  As teams were coming in there were less fish caught on day two and again finding ones that were 18 inches proved to be a challenge.  There were a few teams that were able to put together solid baskets.  The team of Fritz / Sorenson turned in the biggest basket weighing four fish for 9.31 lbs and took the first place prize for day two.

Team Broeren / Broeren had a solid day two and ended winning the whole enchilada with an impressive weight of 17.68 lbs.  There were also teams that proved consistency pays off and made the top ten.  From first to tenth is as follows:

1.  Broeren / Broeren

2.  Mueller / Mueller

3.  Ianero / Jolley

4.  Fritz / Sorenson

5.  Kampbell / Wilson

6.  McClarney / Wolgram

7.  Henry / Klein

8.  Williams / Montoya

9.  Jarred / Citrowske

10. Petersen / Qualley

Overall there were 46 fish weighed on day one and 40 on day two.  There was a total weight of 216.86 pounds for the Cherry Creek ice breaker.  The top youth qualifying team was Broeren / Broeren and the top mixed team was Drew Anderson and Sunshine McCaskey.

Thanks to Sandy and Brady Hewitt for their help once again and also all that volunteered to help out. A special thanks to the folks at Cherry Creek and the marina. Everyone involved had a great time and we look forward to seeing everyone during the remaining tournaments.  The next tournament is at Pueblo Reservoir and the reports is that the bite is hot there right now.  The Pueblo tournament is May 6 and 7th so get registered now.
